Disabled Holidays - Accessible Holidays & Wheelchair Friendly Travel

Planning a holiday when you have specific accessibility needs can feel daunting - but it doesn't have to. DisabledHolidays.com is the UK's largest accessible holiday specialist, helping thousands of families, couples, care homes and groups travel with confidence every year. From disabled-friendly hotels and caravans to cruises and cottages, we carefully match each booking to your requirements. With expert advice, ABTA/ATOL protection and outstanding customer support, you can look forward to your trip knowing everything has been arranged with accessibility in mind.

How we confirm accessibility

We start with you - not the property. Your travel specialist goes through an extensive accessibility checklist to make sure every practical detail of your trip has been considered. We listen to your exact access requirements, then verify those details directly with the supplier before you book. That means you're not relying on a vague “accessible” label, but on confirmed, practical information. Where needed, we also check transfers and equipment hire so the whole trip works end-to-end.

We typically confirm:

  • Entry and route: step-free access, ramps/lifts, thresholds and any steps
  • Bathroom setup: wet room or roll-in shower, grab rails, layout and usable space
  • Space and movement: turning space, bed access, door widths and circulation space
  • Equipment needs: profiling beds, hoists, shower chairs and other essentials
  • On-site access: lifts, bars and restaurants, pool access, and distances around the property
  • Travel support: wheelchair-accessible transfers and special assistance at the airport.

If we cannot get a clear confirmation, we do not guess. We will recommend suitable alternatives and explain why.

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting started

Not sure where to begin? These answers explain what “accessible” can mean, and what we need from you to recommend suitable holidays.

What does “accessible holiday” mean?

An accessible holiday means accommodation and facilities that meet your individual mobility or support needs. This can include features such as step-free access, wide doorways, wet rooms, hoists, profiling beds or shower chairs.

We don’t rely on generic labels. One of our specialists will talk through your needs with you, and we use our accessibility form as a checklist to make sure nothing important is missed - whether you use a walking aid, a manual wheelchair or a powered wheelchair.

What’s the difference between “accessible” and “wheelchair friendly”?

"Wheelchair friendly" is often used as a general term, but it doesn’t always confirm the practical details that matter day-to-day - such as steps, doorway widths, bathroom layout, or turning space.

Accessible accommodation is assessed in more detail. We review your requirements and, where available, gather specifics such as equipment options, shower facilities and key access features so we can match you with a property that genuinely fits your needs.

What information should I provide to get the best recommendations?

To recommend the most suitable options, we ask about both your accessibility needs and your general holiday preferences.

This includes your mobility requirements, wheelchair type (manual or powered) and dimensions, and any equipment you may need (for example hoists or profiling beds). We’ll also ask what kind of holiday you enjoy, who is travelling, and any preferences such as destination type and board basis.

The more you can tell us, the easier it is for us to match you with accommodation that truly fits your needs. If you’re unsure about anything, we’ll guide you through it.

If you’re unsure about any of the above, don’t worry - we can ask a few practical questions and guide you to suitable options.

Enquiries and how booking works

When you submit an enquiry, a travel specialist reviews it and helps confirm the right option for your dates and requirements.

Is an enquiry the same as a booking?

No. An enquiry is simply a request for information so we can check availability and understand your needs.

Once we’ve reviewed your details and confirmed the key points, we’ll send a quote by phone or email. If you’re happy to proceed, we’ll guide you through the booking process.

What happens after I submit an enquiry?

After you submit an enquiry, one of our specialists reviews your details and your accessibility form. We may contact you to clarify anything important so we fully understand your mobility needs, equipment requirements and holiday preferences.

We then check availability and confirm suitability with the supplier before we recommend options and provide a quote. If your first choice isn’t available or isn’t the right fit, we’ll recommend alternatives that better match your requirements.

What if I’m not sure what I need?

That’s completely normal. We’ll guide you through the process by asking a few practical questions about your mobility, comfort and support needs, and what kind of holiday you’re looking for.

Whether it’s your first accessible holiday or you’re trying a new destination, we’ll help you work out what features are most important and recommend suitable options so you can book with confidence.

If you’d rather talk it through first, you can call us or email [email protected] for advice.

Destinations and holiday types

We offer accessible holidays in the UK and abroad, including cruises and a range of accommodation types.

Do you offer accessible holidays in the UK as well as abroad?

Yes. We offer accessible holidays across the UK and overseas.

In the UK this includes wheelchair accessible cottages, hotels, lodges and caravan parks. Abroad, we can help with accessible hotels, villas, apartments and cruises. We’ll guide you to destinations and accommodation types that suit your individual needs.

Do you offer all-inclusive accessible holidays?

Yes. We offer a wide range of all-inclusive accessible holidays across many popular destinations.

We can help you choose options that fit your access requirements and advise on practical considerations such as resort layout, distances to key facilities, and accessible room features.

Do you offer accessible cruises?

Yes. We offer accessible cruises, including wheelchair accessible cabins and ships with accessible facilities.

Accessibility can vary by ship, cabin category and itinerary, so we’ll help you understand what to expect before you book - especially around cabin suitability and shore/port arrangements.

If you’re not sure which type of holiday is best for your needs, we can recommend options based on what matters most to you.

Travel support, protection and peace of mind

We can help with the practical side of travelling, and we’ll explain what booking protection applies to your trip.

Can you help with flights, adapted transfers and equipment hire?

In many cases, yes. We can advise on flights and arrange support such as adapted transfers (for example wheelchair-accessible vehicles) and mobility equipment hire where available.

Availability varies by destination and supplier, so we recommend booking early if you need specific equipment or transport. We’ll talk you through the options and give clear advice about what’s possible.

Are holidays booked through DisabledHolidays.com protected by ABTA/ATOL?

We’ll confirm what protection applies to your booking, including ABTA/ATOL protection where relevant (for example when flights are included as part of a package).

If you’re not sure what protection applies to your trip, ask and we’ll clarify it before you book.

What if my needs change after I’ve booked?

If anything changes after you’ve completed your accessibility form, please contact us as soon as possible.

We’ll review what’s been arranged, check suitability with the relevant suppliers, and explain the available options - such as arranging equipment hire where possible - depending on what’s been booked and what changes are needed.

If you have questions at any stage, we’d rather talk it through early - it’s the best way to keep everything smooth and stress-free. Need more detail? See our FAQs and travel advice.
